How to Make a Classic Tiramisu

Gather Ingredients You’ll need ladyfinger cookies, mascarpone cheese, eggs, sugar, strong espresso or coffee, cocoa powder, and optional Marsala wine or rum for depth.

Prepare Coffee Mixture Brew strong espresso or dark coffee. Let it cool, then mix in a splash of Marsala or rum if desired. Set aside in a shallow dish.

Separate and Whisk Eggs Separate egg yolks and whites. Beat yolks with sugar until thick and pale. In another bowl, whip egg whites (or cream) to soft peaks.

Fold in Mascarpone Gently fold mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until smooth, then fold in whipped egg whites or cream for a light, airy texture.

Dip Ladyfingers Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture — don’t soak too long or they’ll fall apart — and layer them in your dish.

Layer Cream and Cookies Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat the layers once more, ending with a smooth layer of cream on top.

Chill the Tiramisu Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours (overnight is best) to allow flavors to blend and the dessert to set properly.
